Our Story
Dash Cultural and Educational Institute (DASH), founded in 2008, is the one of the few language schools in the Philippines specializing in teaching Chinese. It has a strong faculty and is made up of not only senior teachers who know about Fil-Chi education, but also licensed and experienced young teachers. All of whom love education, constantly develop teaching programs and courses, and use the simplest and most effective methods to let students learn Chinese and appreciate the beautiful Chinese culture in the shortest time.
The school was founded at the end of 2008 by the teachers who grew up in Mainland China and Taiwan respectively, Engr. Sofia Li Chua and Ms. Loung Ming Chen. Teacher Sofia has been engaged in education for decades. From a Chinese primary school teacher to an academic director, from a Chinese guest teacher of a University to the Chinese course counselor to the principal of DASH, she has always devoted herself to education.
Teacher Loung, on the other hand, has served as a kindergarten, primary school teacher, kindergarten Chinese director and primary school Chinese director. She also actively promoted teaching reform and promoted second language teaching. They both do their best in providing quality Chinese education in the Philippines. Based on decades of teaching experience and experimentation, the team of DASH has independently developed a Chinese-language course suitable for non-Chinese speaking students.
The comprehensive teaching effect is very significant; especially for Filipinos and Filipino-Chinese. The school currently has nearly 300 students, aged from one and a half to seventy-two years old. Adult students come from all professions. In the past ten years, graduates have achieved good results in various fields of society by using the acquired Chinese language skills. With the unremitting efforts of all teachers and students, the school has won the recognition and praise of parents and students.
In May 2013, DASH was recognized by the China Overseas Chinese Affairs Office and began to assign excellent in-service Chinese teachers to support the Chinese teaching of the school. In November 2015, DASH established a partnership with the Philippine Chinese Education Center (the National Overseas Chinese Office authorized its full-fledged agency in the Philippines) to jointly promote the exchange of culture and education between China and the Philippines. In December 2013 and August 2016, DASH signed a memorandum of agreement with St. Paul University of the Philippines. In August 2017, DASH officially held the Chinese language classes in St. Paul University Quezon City Campus.
As the Covid-19 pandemic disrupted the entire community, DASH was compelled to move its entire operations to fit the online setup to keep teachers, staff, and students safe from the spread of the virus. By June 2020, Dash was ready to offer their fully online program using a learning management system (LMS) where they provide students with lessons every day (Mon-Fri). Lessons are implemented with synchronous and asynchronous activities. Dash was able to prove that their online program is equally effective as their face-to-face classes by achieving a 100% passing rate in the 2022 HSK exam.
In 2022, DASH officially offered their Foundational Mandarin Course for Adults to units from the Armed Forces of the Philippines where they equip military personnel with Chinese language skills to protect our country more effectively. In 2023, DASH also offered their effective program to corporate companies such as employees of a well-known international jewelry brand.
