learn chinese mandarin

Mandarin Chinese is an interesting language. The characters are beautiful and even Mark Zuckerberg got hooked. It is one of the most used languages in the business world these days. However, learning the language is not a walk in the park. That’s why even while enrolled in a language program you need to supplement your learning with strategies that you can do at home.

1. Stick to a study plan. Goals are easier to achieve if you are able to visualize it. Think and write down what exactly it is you want to achieve. Whether you want to achieve perfect pronunciation or write all the character, it will be easier to stay focused on the goal if you are always reminded about it.

2. Focus on the essentials. To master Mandarin Chinese, you need to be able to master reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. Don’t neglect one aspect or keep your focus on another. All four are equally important.

3. Gather the most effective learning tools. Studying on your own is not easy but with the right tools, the task is more possible. Get your hands on books especially made for language students like you. Pair it with sticky notes filled with Chinese words and characters. Stick it to different parts of your room or house that you frequent. Throw in some good movies, songs, and audio materials then jot down the words you hear.

4. Find a partner to practice with. You can find them online or even among your social circle.

5. Make sure you are making progress. In order to be sure that your study plan is actually working, you need to test yourself whenever possible. Pick textbooks that have “Test Yourself” sections or make a record of yourself speaking Chinese once a weak so you can compare your current pronunciation skills from before.

Keep your study sessions frequent and interesting so you can be fluent in the Mandarin Chinese language in no time. It is much better to spend your time learning that just sitting at home all day or doing things that will not help you achieve your goal of learning the Chinese language.
